Our Lower Secondary pupils were challenged to write about their experience of our Grand Opening. Here is the wonderful account written by Cailean:
'In our colourful school classroom, Mr Gowers announced that we would be having a grand opening at Marjory Kinnon School.
Never before, had the class been to a grand opening.
Unexpectedly, he said that Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson would be coming on the day.
Unfortunately, I did not know who she was at the time, but we learnt lots about her in our English lessons with Mr Gowers over the next few weeks. One Morning we made a special display to welcome her to our school that was put up by the enterance. It made our class feel proud. On the day of the Grand Opening, everyone sat in our large school hall. Looking around, there were children from Primary and Secondary, and some special adults that included the Mayor of Hounslow.
Excitedly, we waited for Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson to come to the stage and make her speech. Carefully, I listened to her say that 'Education gives you choices'. From now on, I will try really hard at school so I have choices when I am older. Loudly, we sang our school values song about Kindness, Tolerance, Perseverance and Respect.
Soon, the Grand Opening was over. Sadly, we had to say goodbye to Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson.
Sometimes, I think back to the Grand Opening and smile. It was a great experience.'
