  • Pupil Voice

At Marjory Kinnon School we believe pupils should have meaningful opportunities to share their views and experiences. Listening to our pupils helps us understand what matters to them and helps us improve the school community.

Pupil voice is especially important in supporting good practice for pupils with autism and other special educational needs. We aim to create safe, accessible and meaningful ways for pupils to communicate their views, in ways that work best for them.

One of the ways we do this is through our Change Team, where pupils meet with staff to discuss ideas, raise concerns and suggest improvements. We take these ideas seriously. Through our “Pupils Said, We Did” approach, we show how pupil feedback can lead to real changes across the school.

    PUPILS SAID, WE DID

    Library and Learning

Pupils said: They would like more non-fiction books in the library, including popular series.
We did: £2,500 was invested in new books and expanding the library collection.

Pupils said: Primary pupils would like Food Technology back on the timetable.
We did: Food technology has been reintroduced and is on the timetable for both Primary and Secondary.

    School Environment

Pupils said: Some toilets needed to be cleaner and have air freshener.
We did: Additional lunchtime cleaning was introduced and an air freshener installed.

Pupils said: The Common Room could have more things to do.
We did: The Common Room was refreshed with a mural and new equipment.

    Food and School Meals

Pupils said: They would like burgers and tastier meal options.
We did: Chicken and vegetarian burgers were added to the spring menu.

Pupils said: Jacket potatoes are a favourite and should be available daily.
We did: Jacket potatoes are now offered every day, with cheese or beans.

Pupils said: Some menu items were not popular and desserts were not always following the menu.
We did: Feedback was shared with our catering provider and meetings were held to improve consistency. Some dishes were removed or adjusted, and menus continue to be updated based on pupil feedback.

    Sports and Activities

Pupils said: They would like more basketball equipment.
We did: 18 new basketballs were purchased and new hoops were installed outside.

Pupils said: They would like more competitive events.
We did: A SportsMARK Award programme has been introduced to increase opportunities for competitive sport with other schools, including Secondary football matches, New Age Kurling, and Primary multi-sports events

Pupils said: Some pupils would like additional gym equipment suitable for older students.
We did: This request has been shared with school leaders for future planning.

    School Experiences

Pupils said: They would like more time with Rumi.
We did: Rumi’s timetable is carefully planned so that pupils who most benefit from his support can spend time with him.  Rumi often goes on walks around the school.

Pupils said: They would like to go on more trips – like a science trip.
We did: The children visited the Science Discovery Centre.

We are proud of how our pupils share their ideas and experiences. Listening to pupil voice helps us continue to develop a school where every child feels valued, heard and supported.
