MEDICAL CONDITIONS AND MEDICATION

At Marjory Kinnon, we are committed to ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of all our pupils. We understand that some children may have medical conditions that require additional care and support. Our trained staff follow best practices in first aid and medicine administration, working closely with parents, carers, and healthcare professionals to provide a safe and supportive environment for every child.

"As the Medical Officer at Marjory Kinnon School, I am dedicated to ensuring the health and well-being of every student. Your child's safety is my top priority, and I am here to make sure they receive the best possible care." - Mrs D. Lee, Medical Officer

Medical Conditions

If your child has a medical condition that may impact them during school hours or on school visits, please notify us as soon as possible. For conditions such as epilepsy, an Individual Healthcare Plan (IHP) will be developed in collaboration with parents and healthcare professionals. This plan will outline how to manage the condition and the appropriate response in case of an emergency.

Minor injuries, such as cuts and scrapes, are treated on-site by a first aid-trained member of staff. In the event of a more serious accident, such as a suspected fracture, we will immediately contact parents. If we are unable to make contact, we will ensure the child receives medical attention at the hospital, leaving a message at both the school and the child’s home. No child will ever be left unaccompanied at a hospital or clinic.

Medicine Administration

If your child requires medication prescribed by a doctor during school hours, please bring it directly to the school office. All medication must be in its original container, clearly labelled with the pupil’s name and the prescriber’s instructions. We are unable to accept medication that has been removed from its original packaging or alter dosages based on parent instructions.

An Administration of Medication Form must be completed and returned to the school office or Medical Officer before any medication can be administered. For safety reasons, children are not permitted to carry any medication themselves except Asthma Inhalers.

If your child contracts an infectious disease (e.g., whooping cough, measles, mumps, chickenpox), please consult your medical practitioner to determine when it is safe to return to school without posing a risk to others.
